Girl Scouts of Lake Forest – Day Camp Evacuation Plan
Lakeview Park near Irvine Lake, Irvine, CA
July 12-16, 2010

The following instructions will be given and practiced on the first day of camp, prior to beginning the first rotation:

1)      In the event of an emergency, a Camp Director will sound a camp wide alarm and make an announcement over the camp PA system.

2)      When the alarm is activated, the entire camp will walk to the open field, where the overnight camping is held (north or the stage and east of the parking lot).  We will refer to this field as the “Emergency Lot”.

3)      The Emergency Lot will have labeled signs that correspond with the names and/or numbers of the camp’s units: Units 1-7, Boys & Pixies, Station Leaders/Aides and Adult Volunteers.  Each packet will contain a roster of each camper, Aides and Adults assigned to that unit/group.  It will also contain emergency contact phone numbers of each person in that unit/group.  (Each day, the signs will be placed in the Emergency Lot, before camp begins.)

4)      Each group will meet at their designated sign.  One leader will perform a roll call for her unit/group.

5)      The Camp Director will call emergency services to inform them of the situation, our location and the number of people that we have at our camp.  The Camp Director will then call the GSLE Specialist at Council.

6)      One leader from each unit/group will report to the Camp Director with their completed roster. This roster will inform the Camp Director whether or not the unit/group is fully accounted for or if a search needs to be conducted for a camper.

7)      The completed rosters will be compared to the master camp roster, which will identify which campers; Aides or volunteers have been signed in or out that day.

8)      The camp will remain in the Emergency Lot until help arrives or instructed otherwise by an emergency authority.

9)      Phone calls will or can be made to parents of campers/Aides to inform them of the emergency and the recommended protocol that we will be following.

*If the emergency is an earthquake, all campers, Aides and volunteers will be pre-instructed to carefully move away from any overhead structures or trees and remain calm.  They will then wait for an announcement from the Camp Director if further action should be taken.  After the shaking has stopped and if the Camp Director feels that it is necessary, she will instruct the camp to cautiously proceed to the buckets in the Emergency Lot.
